These Terms are an agreement between you and Youssef Hamdan, who operates Tutornet in Lebanon (“Tutornet”, “we”, “us”). They apply to the Tutornet app, website and online classroom (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service you accept these Terms, our Privacy Policy and our Community Guidelines. If you don’t agree, don’t use Tutornet.
Please read sections 2, 12, 17, 18 and 19 carefully. They explain that Tutornet is only a platform that connects people, that tutors and students are responsible for their own conduct and content, and how our liability is limited.
The short version
- Tutornet connects students with independent tutors. We are not a school, an employer of tutors, or a party to the lessons you arrange.
- You must be 13+. Students under 18 need a parent or guardian’s permission. Tutors must be 18+.
- You are responsible for what you do, say, share and sell — including your sessions, messages, notes and Folios.
- Tutors own and answer for every Folio they publish. We remove content that infringes others’ rights.
- Breaking these Terms or the Guidelines can get content removed and accounts suspended.
1. Who we are and these Terms
Tutornet is operated by Youssef Hamdan, an individual based in Lebanon. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, Community Guidelines, Refund Policy and Copyright & Folio Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service.
2. What Tutornet is — and isn’t
Tutornet is an online platform that helps students and tutors find each other and gives them tools to communicate, schedule, meet online and share study material. Tutornet is a venue, not a tutoring provider.
- Tutors are independent individuals. They are not our employees, agents, partners or representatives, and they decide what, when, where, how and for how much they teach.
- Any session is an arrangement directly between the student (or their parent or guardian) and the tutor. Tutornet is not a party to it.
- We don’t supervise sessions, and we don’t check tutors’ qualifications, background or criminal records. A verified badge means only that the tutor passed the identity check described in the app — it is not an endorsement.
- We don’t guarantee any academic result, grade, the quality or accuracy of any lesson, note or Folio, or that any user is who they say they are.
- Information on profiles, reviews, Folios and meeting-place suggestions comes from users and third parties. Use your own judgement.
3. Who can use Tutornet
- You must be at least 13 years old.
- If you are 13–17, you may use Tutornet only with your parent or legal guardian’s permission, and they agree to these Terms for you and are responsible for your use of the Service.
- Tutors must be 18 or older and legally able to provide tutoring services and receive payment.
- You may not use Tutornet if we have previously suspended you, or if the law forbids it.
4. Your account
- Give accurate, current information and keep it updated. Don’t impersonate anyone or create fake profiles.
- One account per person. Keep your password private; you are responsible for everything done with your account.
- Tell us immediately at admin@tutornet.app if you think your account was used without permission.
5. Minors and safety
Parents and guardians are responsible for deciding whether Tutornet and a particular tutor are suitable for their child, and for supervising their child’s use of the Service and their sessions.
- Sessions involving a student under 18 should take place online in the Tutornet classroom or in a public place, with the parent or guardian aware of the time, place and tutor.
- Tutors must never meet a minor in a private home or other private place without the parent or guardian’s express permission, must not contact a minor outside Tutornet without that permission, and must never engage in any sexual, romantic or otherwise inappropriate conduct. We report suspected abuse to the authorities.
- Everyone meets other users at their own risk. Follow our Community Guidelines and, if you’re ever in danger, contact local emergency services first (in Lebanon: 112).
6. Rules for everyone
You agree not to:
- harass, threaten, bully, discriminate against, stalk or harm anyone, or post hateful, violent, sexual or otherwise offensive content;
- engage in any sexual or romantic conduct with, or send sexual content to, another user, and in any case never with a minor;
- post false, misleading or fraudulent information, fake reviews, or scam other users;
- share someone else’s personal information, or record, photograph or broadcast anyone without their consent;
- upload anything you don’t have the right to share, or anything that infringes someone else’s copyright, trademark or other rights;
- use Tutornet for cheating: taking exams or doing graded work for someone, sharing leaked exam papers, or breaking an institution’s academic-integrity rules;
- use the Service for anything illegal, to send spam or malware, or to advertise unrelated products;
- access accounts or data that aren’t yours, scrape the Service, reverse-engineer it, or interfere with how it works.
The Community Guidelines explain these rules in more detail.
7. If you are a tutor
- You provide your services as an independent professional, in your own name and at your own risk. Nothing in these Terms creates an employment, agency or partnership relationship with Tutornet.
- You are solely responsible for your teaching, conduct, availability, prices, the accuracy of your profile and qualifications, and for complying with laws that apply to you, including tax, social security and any licensing rules.
- You must honour the sessions you confirm, be on time, and treat students — especially minors — with care and professionalism.
- You may not ask students for payment, gifts or personal favours outside what was agreed, or to move to another platform to avoid our rules.
- You are responsible for everything you share or sell, including notes, documents and Folios (see section 12).
8. If you are a student
- Show up to the sessions you book, or cancel in good time through the app.
- Pay the tutor what was agreed for the sessions you take.
- Use what you learn honestly. Don’t ask a tutor to do your graded work or exams.
- If you’re under 18, keep your parent or guardian informed about your sessions.
9. Sessions, cancellations and disputes
Prices, times, places and cancellation rules are agreed between the student and the tutor through the app. Unless the app clearly shows that a payment is collected by Tutornet, session fees are paid directly to the tutor, and Tutornet does not collect, hold or refund them. Disputes about a session (quality, lateness, no-shows, payment) are between the student and the tutor. We may help, review reports and take action on accounts, but we are not responsible for resolving them or for any loss they cause.
10. Online sessions
The online classroom is provided for live tutoring. Tutornet does not record sessions. Don’t record, screenshot or share a session, its board or notes without the consent of everyone in it (and a parent or guardian for minors). You are responsible for what you show, say and share, including on screen.
11. Payments, Keys and Folio purchases
- Prices for Keys and Folios are shown before you pay. Purchases are processed by Apple, Google or Whish under their terms; we never receive your card details.
- Keys are a digital tool that lets tutors unlock student profiles. They have no cash value, can’t be transferred or exchanged for money, and are not refundable once used, except where the law or the app store requires.
- Buying a Folio gives you a personal, non-transferable licence to read it in the app for your own study. You may not copy, share, resell or publish it.
- Refunds follow our Refund Policy and the rules of the store you paid through.
- We may change prices for future purchases at any time.
12. Folios — rules for sellers
Before publishing each Folio, the tutor must accept an ownership and responsibility statement in the app. We keep a record of it. By publishing a Folio you confirm and agree that:
- you are its original author, or hold every right and permission needed to sell it;
- it does not copy anyone else’s work — textbooks, lecture slides, past exams, solution manuals, or other students’ or tutors’ material — without permission, and does not break any institution’s rules, exam or academic-integrity policy, or any law, and contains no one’s personal information;
- you alone are fully responsible for the Folio and for any claim that it involves plagiarism, infringement of copyright, trademark or other rights, or theft of content;
- Tutornet only hosts, displays and sells the Folio on your behalf. We do not create, review, edit or own its content and are not responsible for it;
- you grant Tutornet a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, convert into page images, display previews of, and sell the Folio in the Service while it is published, and to keep providing it to people who bought it;
- Tutornet keeps the share of each sale shown in the app when you publish, after store fees. Your earnings become available after a hold period and are paid to your Whish account when you request them;
- we may remove a Folio, refuse or reverse sales, hold back or deduct earnings for refunds, chargebacks, fraud or a rights complaint we uphold, and suspend repeat infringers;
- you will compensate Tutornet for any loss, cost, damages or legal fees resulting from your Folio or a claim about it (see section 19).
To report a Folio, see our Copyright & Folio Policy.
13. Your content
You keep ownership of what you post — your profile, messages, notes, drawings, reviews and Folios. You give Tutornet a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, process and display it as needed to run and improve the Service, and to show it to the people you share it with. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for content others already received (such as messages, shared notes or purchased Folios) and copies we must keep by law. You are responsible for your content and promise that you have the right to share it and that it follows these Terms.
14. Copyright complaints
If you believe content on Tutornet infringes your rights, report it as described in our Copyright & Folio Policy. We remove content when we receive a valid complaint, may notify the person who posted it, and suspend accounts of repeat infringers.
15. Reviews
Reviews must be honest and based on a real session. We may remove reviews that are fake, abusive, off-topic or that break these Terms, but we don’t verify or endorse reviews.
16. Reports, moderation and suspension
You can report and block users from profiles, chats and sessions. We review reports, but we have no obligation to monitor the Service and can’t review everything. We may, at our discretion and without prior notice where needed for safety, remove content, limit features, cancel sessions, hold earnings, or suspend or close accounts that break these Terms or put others at risk, and we may report illegal conduct to the authorities.
17. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Tutornet makes no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including about the conduct, identity, qualifications or reliability of any user, the quality, accuracy, legality or originality of any lesson, note, review or Folio, the safety of any meeting place, or that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free.
Meeting-place suggestions come from Google Places and are an independent directory; Tutornet is not affiliated with listed businesses and is not responsible for your experience there. Third-party services (such as app stores, Whish, Persona, maps and video providers) are governed by their own terms.
18. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- Tutornet is not liable for the acts, omissions, content or conduct of any user, in person, online or in any Folio, or for any session or arrangement between users;
- Tutornet is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, grades, opportunities or goodwill;
- our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid to Tutornet in the 3 months before the claim, or USD 50.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for fraud, gross negligence or wilful misconduct.
19. Your responsibility to us (indemnity)
You agree to defend and compensate Tutornet and its operator for any claim, loss, damages, fine, cost or legal fee arising from: your use of the Service; your sessions or dealings with other users; your content, notes or Folios (including any claim of plagiarism or infringement); or your breach of these Terms or of the law. We will tell you about such a claim and may take part in the defence with our own lawyers.
20. Ending your use
You can stop using Tutornet and delete your account at any time (Profile → Settings → Delete account). We may suspend or end your access as described in section 16, or if we stop offering the Service. Sections that by their nature should continue — including 12, 13, 17, 18, 19 and 21 — survive.
21. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Lebanon. Before starting any claim, please contact us at admin@tutornet.app so we can try to resolve it within 30 days. If we can’t, the courts of Beirut, Lebanon have exclusive jurisdiction, unless consumer protection law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim in your own courts.
22. Changes to the Service or these Terms
We may change the Service or these Terms. We’ll update the date at the top and, for significant changes, tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using Tutornet after that, you accept the new Terms; if you don’t agree, stop using it and delete your account.
23. General
- If any part of these Terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If we don’t enforce a right straight away, we don’t give it up.
- You can’t transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours if Tutornet is sold or reorganised.
- These Terms are written in English; any translation is for convenience only.
